Legal expenses insurance
Property brings disputes, and disputes cost money even when you are in the right. Legal expenses insurance covers lawyer and proceedings costs, not the substantive outcome of the dispute.
What kinds of dispute it covers
- Rental disputes, for example unpaid rent or damage to the property
- Disagreements with neighbours
- Disputes arising from a purchase or a sale
- Disputes with a builder or contractor
- Disputes with the apartment association
The point property owners easily miss
The basic package as a rule covers disputes relating to one property only, and that property is the policyholder’s own home. If you have rental units, they are not covered by default. One Estonian insurer offers a specific add on that extends the cover to further properties, for a few euros a month. If you own two or three rental flats, that is probably the cheapest insurance you will ever buy.
Sums insured are typically between 15 000 and 25 000 euros.
What it does not cover
A dispute that is already under way cannot be insured. The cover applies to future cases and there is usually a waiting period as well. If you have a dispute running right now, say so honestly in the form and we will not waste your time.
